Your privacy matters. This page explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Welcome to PDF Scanner. This Privacy Policy describes how the app handles your information, and it is written to be checkable rather than reassuring. PDF Scanner is a document scanner available on the App Store and Google Play.

People scan the most sensitive paper in their lives with an app like this one — leases, identity documents, contracts, medical and school forms. The short version is that those scans stay on your phone. The sections below say exactly what that means, including the one place the app does use the internet.

There is no account to create, so there is nothing to sign into or be signed out of. There is no cloud storage and no sync. There is no upload path in the document flow at all.

This is enforced structurally, not by policy: the parts of the app that capture, store, and export your documents contain no networking code, and an automated build check fails the release if any is introduced. Your scanned pages, the PDFs you assemble, your file and folder names, and your library index are all stored in the app's private storage on your device.

When the app reads the text on a page so you can search inside your scans, that recognition runs locally — using Apple's Vision framework on iOS and Google's ML Kit on Android, both on-device. Your pages are never sent anywhere to be read. The resulting text is stored on your device as a local search index and is never transmitted.

The app is not offline in every respect, and claiming otherwise would be something you could disprove. PDF Scanner uses the internet for exactly two things: advertising (Google AdMob) and crash diagnostics.

Neither of those ever receives your documents, your scanned images, your recognized text, or your file and folder names. AdMob may collect the standard advertising signals it collects in any app — an advertising identifier, coarse device and app information, and interaction with the ads themselves — as described in Google's own policies. Ads appear only on the library screen and once after you have finished sharing a document; they never appear while you are scanning, reviewing, or exporting.

We do not collect personal data. We operate no servers that receive your content, and we have no way to see your documents. The only data handling involved is the AdMob and crash-diagnostics activity described above, which is limited to the standard signals those services collect and never includes document content.

Camera is requested the first time you scan, because the camera is how paper becomes a PDF. Photo access is requested only when you tap Import, and goes through the system picker so the app sees only the images you choose. The app also requests internet access and an advertising identifier for the advertising described above, and vibration for capture feedback. It does not request storage, contacts, location, or microphone access.

Every document is a real file. PDFs and images you have exported, saved, or shared are outside the app's own database — deleting a document in the app, or uninstalling the app entirely, does not touch them. Removing the app removes its library and search index from your device.

We do not share your documents, scanned images, recognized text, or file names with anyone, because none of it ever leaves your device. The only third parties involved in any data handling are Google AdMob (advertising) and the crash-diagnostics service, limited to the signals described above.

Your scans, PDFs, and library index are stored in the app's private, sandboxed storage provided by the operating system. Because your documents are never transmitted, there is no server-side copy of them to breach. Note that PDF Scanner does not currently offer password-protected PDF export; if you need an encrypted file, use a tool that provides it explicitly.

We do not collect or store personal information on external servers, so there is nothing for us to retain. All application data lives on your device and can be removed at any time by deleting individual documents in the app, clearing the app's storage, or uninstalling the application.

Our application is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13 ("Children"). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so that we can take appropriate steps.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. Changes are effective when they are posted.
